This is always the panel I reference when discussion Mello’s views on religion. The alter in the background.

Yup! That’s why I think religion to him was more than just wearing rosaries. I still think that it’s something he /wants/ to believe in more than he actually does, but to me, this panel justifies that he prays, even if not often.

Like I’ve mentioned before, my headcanon is that his mother was really religious and so Mello hangs onto it because of her - and because he wants the comfort that comes with believing in a god (though he doesn’t necessarily get that comfort because he can’t believe as deeply as he wants)

Oh, yes, I love that. I can believe that Mello would have something like that as kind of a comfort and a constant in his life.
